My name is Shafi and I’m a passionate fish tank hobbyist located in Kent, Washington. I have completed my degree at the Murray State University on Aquaculture. I created this blog to share my years of experience with setting up and maintaining home aquariums.
I’ve been keeping fish tanks since I was a child, starting with a small 10 gallon freshwater tank. Over the years, my love for the hobby has grown exponentially. I now have 5 tanks in my home, including both freshwater and saltwater set-ups ranging from 20 gallons up to 150 gallons. I keep various fish including bettas, tetras, cory catfish, mollies, dwarf gourami, as well as Snails, shrimp, and other creatures.
Through trial and error with my own tanks, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about all aspects of the fishkeeping hobby. Everything from cycling a new tank and testing water parameters to choosing tank mates and aquascaping appealing underwater environments. I continue to learn new techniques and best practices all the time by reading books and aquarium forums.
The goal with my blog Starter Fish Tank is to pass on what I’ve picked up over the years to help both new and experienced fish hobbyists. I write guides and advice on topics like selecting equipment, acclimating new fish, performing tank maintenance, managing algae outbreaks, and more. No matter what questions you have about the hobby, I want to provide useful tips and recommendations so you can avoid pitfalls and enjoy healthy, thriving aquariums.
I invite you to have a look around the blog and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any fish tank related questions! I always love discussing this incredible hobby.
Thanks,
Shafi
